Butch Lesbian Pride Flag

The Butch Lesbian Flag is designed to represent lesbians with a more ‘masculine’ or ‘dominant’ personality, style or identity.

It’s a redesign of the original rainbow flag and the pink lesbian flag which is associated with more ‘femme’ lipstick lesbians (see below). The colour scheme of blues, purple, grey and white was apparently just designed as a ‘butch makeover’ of the flag.

What Does It Mean to Be a Butch Lesbian?

Being a butch lesbian refers to a woman or a person assigned female at birth who expresses a more traditionally masculine identity or appearance. Butch lesbians may have a more masculine style in clothing, behavior, or mannerisms, but their sexual orientation is still rooted in attraction to women. The term “butch” is part of the broader lesbian community and represents a diverse way of embodying gender, emphasizing self-expression and challenging traditional gender norms. It can also include an element of pride in embracing a non-feminine gender presentation.
